Automotive
Since its introduction, automotive technology has been constantly changing and improving, with the result that present vehicles are very complex systems.
The wide use of electronic systems and components on cars and trucks requires specialized technicians, skilled in mechanical repair as well as electronic diagnosis and maintenance.
For these reasons, automotive technicians must possess an increasingly wide base of knowledge about the functions and interactions of vehicles’ complex components, as well as the capacity to work with electronic diagnosis equipment and computer – based programs and data, while maintaining their skills with traditional hand tools.
They must acquire also the capacity to guarantee the maintenance and the correct repair of the on-board systems, while assuring their performances, efficiency and environmental standards.
In a motor vehicle the principal systems that need particular training are the following:
- Engine
- Drive train, 2WD, 4WD and AWD
- Brake system and ABS
- Electrical system
- Fuel system and emission control
- Steering and suspensions
- Engine cooling system
- Air conditioning and heating
